Our bones provide strength for our bodies and help form our shape. Our joints make the skeletal system flexible and make movement possible. Our muscles also contribute to our ability to move by pulling on our bones when we move. All together our bones, joints and muscles, and joints (with the support of cartilage, ligaments and tendons) create the musculoskeletal system. And like all systems of the body, it has an important role to play in allowing us to carry out our physical activities.
When our musculoskeletal system is under stress this impacts not just how the body feels but also limits what activities we can partake in and limits our contribution to our community/society. This can have a knock on effect impacting an individual both physically and mentally.
Our bones are made up of calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and other minerals, as well as the protein collagen. Calcium is needed to make bones hard, which allows them to support your weight. Bones also store calcium and release some into the bloodstream when it’s needed by other parts of the body. The amounts of certain vitamins and minerals that you eat, especially vitamin D and calcium, directly affect how much calcium is stored in the bones.
Our joints, as mentioned above, are the connection between two bones. Joints and their surrounding structures allow you to bend your elbows and knees, wiggle your hips, bend your back, turn your head, and wave your fingers. Smooth tissue called cartilage and synovium and a lubricant called synovial fluid cushion the joints so bones do not rub together. But increasing age, injury,or carrying too much weight can wear and tear your cartilage. This can lead to a reaction that can damage your joints and lead to arthritis which is the inflammation of your joints.
Muscles pull on the joints, allowing us to move. They also help the body perform other functions so we can grow and remain strong, such as chewing food and then moving it through the digestive system. The human body interestingly has more than 600 muscles and they can make up up half of a person’s body weight.
We have three types of muscles:
Symptoms and sign associated with joints can include:
Common pathologies of the joints and muscles are:
With joint problems there tends to be a great deal of resentment and anger related to perceived shortcoming in life. This could be related to personal relationships and failed projects. Often there is a feeling of suppressed anger toward influential people in your life. In childhood, hostility, blame, judgement, a lack of trust and an unreliable foundation may have been common themes which need to be explored.
Often individual who experience issues with their bones, feel caught up in circumstances that make them feel resentful, pushed beyond their limits or out fo their comfort zone. Their is often a lot of anger, frustration and resentment involved.
Typically, the more infection or pain there is in the broken bone area, the more anger, resentment or grief the person is holding onto.
Muscle weakness often represents an inner weakness due to a combination of emotional exhaustion, being overwhelmed or feeling rigid and guilty. Anxiety is often linked with muscles problems having paralysing effect, making a person not want to move forwards with life and their goals. There are often old fears that have left you feeling shocked, horrified or numb at play that need to be cleared.
All emotions are linked to belief systems and are in turn linked to events/ memories that we have experienced in our life. We may not be aware of them but they are there in our subconscious mind working in the background wanting to be addressed and released.
Techniques such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Matrix Reimprinting are very powerful tools in helping identify these memories and clearing the energy behind them and therefore clearing the belief systems.
