Optimising your energy requires a holistic approach, which looks beyond the simplistic idea that energy ‘in’ automatically means energy ‘out’.
Understanding that we are multisensory and dimensional beings (body, mind and spirit) and that energy production involves optimising the vital macronutrients and micronutrients, supporting the body processes central to energy production, assessing whether our emotions are creating energy or draining energy and whether we are accessing our true self (spirit) which is connected to limitless energy.
Think of how your car requires not just petrol or diesel (fuel), but oil, water, antifreeze, driving sensibly (spirit) and regular MOT servicing (mind). Our own human energy system is no different!
The definition of energy is ‘the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity’. When our life energy is high we feel wonderful, we radiate health and wellbeing, we inspire and energise others, we reach our full potential in life, we excel in business and we still have high energy left to bring to our relationships and to achieving our higher aspirational goals.
The mitochondria are our cell’s energy factory (or ‘powerhouse’). It’s the job of the mitochondria to produce cellular energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). We know that certain nutrients and enzymes play a huge role in mitochondrial function and, more recently, that genetic variability affects the mitochondria.
The mitochondria’s function may be compromised by oxidative stress (cellular damage). This can be partly from external influences (pollution, stress, chemicals in the environment, alcohol etc) but also cellular damage can occur as part of the natural process of energy production. Therefore, the mitochondria require a diet rich in antioxidants – think colourful vegetables, some fruit, herbs and spices and other healthy foods that supply essential nutrients.
All humans have a physical body and also an equivalent energy body. The energy body is governed by our meridian system. It is identified as a series of energy points located around the body and carries our vital force/energy (also known as chi, prana, life force).
Our meridian system is intimately linked with our emotional states. If we experience negative emotional states for a prolonged period this can cause blockages in our meridians which in turn can cause the mitochondria in our cells to stop functioning optimally and result in a lack of energy production.
Sign and symptoms that can be associated with poor energy management are as follows:
There are typical pathologies that are associated with poor energy management which are as follows:
Stress can play a big part in the management of energy levels. Often when we experience high levels of stress on a continual basis this can cause our adrenal glands to fatigue which result in low cortisol being produced which corresponds with low mood, no motivation and brain fog.
Also the general emotions you are experiencing on a daily basis will have an influence on how your body responds. Often feeling frustrated, like you are not being acknowledged/believed by others, pressured, a sense of sadness, disappointment and confusion are ones to be aware of.
Our belief systems you have of yourself and of the world can play an important role too. Having high expectations of yourself and others can sometimes work against you, believing nobody listens to you or being a people pleaser are often implicated with energy issues.
Techniques such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Matrix Reimprinting are very powerful tools in helping work with these emotions or traumatic memories by clearing the energy behind them. Once the energy has been cleared health returns to the body.
There are many factors involved when looking at energy management and why the body may not be functioning optimally. These require investigating holistically and the individual needs to be assessed as a whole to truly determine the root cause(s).
Adjusting your nutritional intake and lifestyle habits, supporting mental wellbeing as well as assessing your spiritual wellbeing will play a crucial role in getting energy levels back into balance.
